Homeopathy: A New Direction?

Many health practitioners recognise the concept of Direction of Cure. As the body heals itself symptoms can be observed to move from the inside out, top down and in the reverse order they first appeared. The concept is often known as Herings Law.

Constantine Hering  (1800-1880) was born in Oschatz Saxony.  He was to become famous for his influence on homoeopathy across America. Constantine studied medicine at the University of Leipzig under a Surgeon Dr Henrich Robbi.   In 1821 Dr Robbi was asked to write a book against homoeopathy because it was considered a threat to the orthodox system of medicine and was scorned (which is sometimes the case today).  As time was short the task was passed to his assistant Hering who nearly finished it in 1822.

However, whilst researching the work Hering was obliged to refer to the texts of Samuel Hahnemann in order to make quotations.

He decided to repeat experiments as suggested in the literature and found the system of medicine to work. The book was never competed!

During 1824, whilst dissecting an exhumed body, Constantine injured a finger which turned gangrenous. After much treatment using the popular methods of the time, including leeches and silver nitate, amputation appeared to be the only option. He was persuaded to take a remedy having little faith in its ability to help declaring it to be a “ridiculously small dose”.  However after a few doses the finger was saved and years later in his writing a grateful Dr Hering  “devoted my hand to Hahnemann’s teaching”

Dr Constantine Hering held the flag of homoeopathy until his last breath
