Clarinetist Emma Johnson to play a Fund-raising concert in Frant Church

One of Britain’s best loved (and finest!) clarinettists, Emma Johnson is giving a fund-raising concert in Frant Church on Friday 22nd March 2013. Emma was voted ‘BBC Young Musician of the Year’ in 1984, and winner of the ‘Young Concert Artist International Auditions’ in 1991 which led to her debut recital at Carnegie Hall, New York City. Emma has since become firmly established as a supreme recitalist, appearing with the English chamber Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, Northern Sinfonia and many others, in a busy solo career that has taken her to major European venues including America, Asia, Africa, Australasia etc.

Emma will be accompanied by the highly renowned pianist John Lenehan, and a recent CD recording by Emma and John (sonatas by Brahms and Mendelssohn) won rave reviews, and was considered a ‘land-mark’ disc by ‘The Observer’. Her recording ‘Pastoral’ was chosen as CD of the year by the BBC MUSIC MAGAZINE.

A visiting professor of music at Leeds College of Music, and Honorary Fellow at Pembroke College, Cambridge, Emma was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, 1996

The concert is on Friday 22nd March 2013, at 8pm (doors open at 7.30pm), tickets are £16, available from Frant Stores or by tel. Paul Barber 01892 750665 or David Cragg 01892 750845.
