Bowles Outdoor Centre – Skiing & snowboarding lessons start November 2013

Since 1964 Bowles, the outdoor charity has been running courses and activities for people living in our area.

Thousands of people every year use our dry slopes to learn to ski and snowboard, to practice their skills and warm up before a trip away or for exercise in a beautiful environment. Every year hundreds of kids come to Bowles in the school holidays to make new friends and be active in the fresh air while trying the many adventurous activities we run.

Bowles’ winter season runs from November to March and comprises a wide range of activities – group lessons, private lessons, kids’ courses, practice sessions, a kids’ club and a race club. On Saturdays through November we are running taster sessions so that people can give skiing a try without committing a lot of time or money. The lessons are only £7 for 90 minutes and include all equipment and instruction in different age groups.

In the Christmas holidays we have got lots of courses for everyone. There are day courses for kids, intensive skiing and snowboarding courses for adults and a range of taster sessions for all age groups.

In February the Winter Olympics from Sochi in Russia will be on the television and in the aftermath of the London Games we expect there will be a lot of interest in skiing and snowboarding at Bowles. We are running extra kids courses alongside our usual programme of open sessions and courses for adults. It’s going to be a busy winter!

Any profit Bowles makes from courses and lessons allows us, as a charity, to help young people with disabilities or from disadvantaged backgrounds to enjoy adventurous activities – up to August more than 7,000 young people have come to Bowles in 2013 alone.

As well as the winter season we run a great programme of courses in all of the school holidays which get more popular every year. Our birthday parties are a great hit with kids aged six and up and year-round we run courses and private lessons for adults wanting to try climbing, kayaking and canoeing, as well as snow sports.
