Do you have some time to spare on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May? Then perhaps you could support this community event at Grosvenor & Hilbert Park in Tunbridge Wells.
Volunteer stewards will be based at key points in the park, such as gates, first aid and the meet up point and will assist visitors with directions or guidance. Volunteers are needed between 8am and 8pm or for part of this time; there will be a training session prior to the event. You may also be asked to help set up and take down the event.
There are lots of events and activities planned for the Family Day including a dog show, live music and entertainment, a bouncy castle, vintage cars, food, face painting and crafts. It promises to be a fun and lively event!

The Kent High Weald Partnership have been working with Town & Country Housing Group on a project in Showfields called Urban Wildlife Gardening. Over the last two years we have transformed several areas and gardens within Showfields. We have encouraged more wildlife into the area and have promoted healthy eating by building raised beds for residents to grow their own fruit and vegetables
Our next project is to help Michelle who teaches at the Number One Preschool at Showfields. Michelle has offered her front garden as a growing area for the children.
The Kent High Weald Partnership and local volunteers will be rolling up their sleeves to transform Michelles front garden into an area of raised beds for vegetables and a sensory butterfly border.
Crowborough Beacon Golf Club has decided to change the rights of access to the land owned by the Golf Club, also known as Crowborough Common. Access to the land is now only permitted via the Public Footpaths and Bridleways as Section 193 of The Law of Property Act has been revoked. Notices have been erected on the course to inform the public of the new access rights which fall under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act (CROW) 2000. Schedule 1 to the CROW Act identifies 13 categories of land that are “excepted” from the right of access and this includes golf courses. These categories of land were selected to help ensure that the right of access is exercised with consideration for other people and that the public are not placed in positions of danger.
This change has been made, partly because of Health & Safety issues and partly because of the increase in pedestrian traffic on the golf course in general. The club has become increasingly concerned that because of this increased traffic the danger of someone being seriously hurt has escalated in the last few years. In the interests of protecting the public from injury the club cannot allow this situation to continue.
On a positive note the club is in discussions to try to increase the number of Permissive Rights Of Way on the land we own which is not used for playing golf. It is their intention to liaise with local organisations to try to find ways whereby members of the public can safely access other areas of the common whether by additional Public or Permissive rights of way.
