THE POWDERMILL TRUST FOR NATURE CONSERVATION

The Powdermill Trust For nature Conservation is looking for someone to oversee its eleven acre site on the edge of the Village from April/May 2015. The position is voluntary and will suit someone who has a love of the countryside and the natural environment.

The reserve consists of approx. 80% ancient woodland
(believed to be over 500 years old) and approx. 20% wildflower meadows which contain a rich variety of indigenous Flora and Fauna.

There is a band of willing volunteers who currently meet on the first Tuesday and third Sunday of each month who expertly complete any tasks, when required.

The main annual tasks (carried out by the volunteers or by contractors) consists of: Maintaining paths, fences, clearing brambles, the occasional fallen tree, mowing the flower meadows in late autumn to encourage wild flower growth and to keep a balance between lightly managed land and wild environment.

The Powdermill Trust was founded in 1980 with the objective “ To preserve wildlife sites, the habitats of Flora and Fauna of East Sussex” Membership is currently around 180.

The Trust is a limited company and registered charity and is run by a board of Trustees who offer help and advice, when required.

The Trust also rents a three acre wetland site at Powdermill Wood near Battle and oversees the Crowhurst Nature Reserve in conjunction with The Crowhurst Society. These sites are independently managed.

If anyone would like to see what is involved and would like a conducted tour of the site or visit on a work day between 10am to 3pm-ish.
