Wildlife Fair Puts Nature in the Spotlight

A Wildlife Fair is taking place on Tonbridge Castle Lawn on Sunday, June 28th, 2015. Organised by local members of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), the fair is aiming to put nature firmly in the
spotlight. Entrance to the event is free for all ages.
Beginning at 11 am, activities will run until 4 pm and will include rockhopper penguin sack races, egg and spoon races and an I-spy challenge for children. Meanwhile, a variety of experts will be on hand to answer questions and raise awareness about the local wildlife of Tonbridge and beyond. The Folly Wildlife Rescue charity will be bringing a hedgehog to meet the crowds and some local naturalists will be sharing the contents of their
overnight moth trap. Kent Wildlife Trust will have a display of the work they have been doing in the area.
There will be a competition for the best home-made bug hotel designed to give shelter to a range of insects and other creepy-crawlies. Download an entrance form from www.rspb.org.uk/groups/tonbridge/ and bring it along
with your bug hotel on the day. Judging will take place at 3:30 pm.
Among the hands-on attractions will be a nature table and a range of rocks and fossils provided by Kent Geo Diversity. There will be live music and a selection of hot and cold refreshments on sale. The Kent Wildlife Crime Officer will be chatting to visitors and there will be a display from the nearby Wealden RSPB reserves. Medway Valley Countryside Partnership, Kent Plant Heritage and the Kent Reptile and Amphibian group will also have
stalls.
