Bowles

Bowles – your local outdoor activity centre
Providing great experiences for young people.

Every year, thousands of people come to Bowles. Children and young people visit with their schools or youth groups for a residential course, or come to take part in the activity days we run during all the school holidays.

As a charity we turn any profit generated by the lessons and courses we run for the public into bursary money for young people in our area to come to Bowles to experience one of our residential adventurous courses.

Bowles courses help children and young people become more independent, more confident, more capable of judging risk and making decisions for themselves, and better at working as a team and cooperating with others. We use adventurous sports such as rock climbing, kayaking and skiing, and teambuilding and problem solving activities to work towards these aims.

In 2014 we worked with more than 550 young people or children with disabilities or who came from disadvantaged backgrounds. Bowles received no statutory funding for any of this work, using instead money we generated through our own fundraising and from donations.

We want our residential development courses to be available to all children and young people, regardless of disability or disadvantage.

Can you help us find young people to help?

After the fundraising efforts of Bowles’ 50th anniversary last year, we are looking for local youth groups to apply for our bursary fund.

We welcome applications from young carers groups, youth groups and children’s charities in the south east, with the aim of making a residential stay at Bowles an affordable experience for the people who can benefit the most.

The residential stay must be for children and young people, accompanied by their group leaders. If your group fits the bill, email nick@bowles.ac with some information about you feel your group would benefit from a stay at Bowles.

If you can help us with our fundraising, or would like to make a donation towards our work, visit www.bowles.ac/the-outdoor-charity

Bowles has vacancies in the catering and housekeeping team for cooks, kitchen assistants and cleaners. For more information email suzanne@bowles.ac
