CAMEO from VAWK
Have you lost your partner due to death, divorce or separation?
‘Voluntary Action Within Kent (VAWK) is a county wide organisation delivering a range of services to individuals, voluntary and community organisations, private and public sector agencies since 1965 one of its new projects is CAMEO.
CAMEO is for people over the age of 50 who have lost their partner due to death, divorce or separation. We aim to reduce isolation by running a 12 week programme of workshops where participants learn new skills, possibly ones their partner would have done in their relationship. The programmes are aimed to accommodate their needs and wishes, Gardening, Simple DIY, Healthy cooking and eating for one, Personal Finances, Wills etc are just a few examples. VAWK has access to numerous organisations within Tunbridge Wells who offer support, clubs and friendship. At the end of the 12 week workshops, one member of the group said ‘I now feel ready to try a few new things and have made new friends’
CAMEO has now completed a successful six month pilot project and on a limited funding, is continuing to recruit new participants for new groups one in Tunbridge Wells and one in Paddock Wood.
On completion of the first group, members asked for a Social Club to be set up, and as a consequence, the group meets up on a monthly basis. Members can arrange social outings where they don’t have to go on their own, make new friends and learn how to have fun. When each 12 week group finishes members are asked to join the social group.
