Hair – Spring Style

Thinking about your hair this spring and the type of style you would like to wear as the weather (hopefully) begins to warm up, so we can all come out from wearing our winter hats and hoods and begin to show off our style a bit more.

The last few seasons short hair has really made a return to the fashion pages and becoming a common sight within the larger brand images in magazines, with shorter styles beginning to evolve this spring from tight precise crops of the autumn and winter months to styles with more texture – without losing the strong shape and structure that has become a key feature with short hair.

As ever there will always be multiple trends every season so no one is left out, with long hair always playing a major part with seasonal styles especially on the catwalks, with some great looks crowding the runways from House of Holland and Stella McCartney going for more of a grunge meets glam look, so you can have extrovert style broken with messy yet glossy texture. Within my salon and out on the high streets I am seeing more focus on bespoke layering, tailored to the individual with your specific needs and individual hair type taken into account – as a professional this is really good to see as long hair in the past has tended to become samey with more focus on the ability to tie it up and out the way rather than allowing the hair to be worn down to highlight the unique way your hair looks when the right combination of cut, colour and care are taken into account.

For those with mid length hair it really is about considering which direction you want to take your style, whether you want to grow it all out in which case it is still important to remember that going “cold turkey” is not the best option as having shape and balancing out the layering and/or the texture means you don’t have to feel conscious that your hair isn’t looking the way you want it to. Just because your hair may not be your ideal length doesn’t mean you have to have a style that you don’t like, and you may actually find a cut that shows off the hair best at its current length rather than needing to grow it longer!

If you are considering going shorter with your mid length locks it is also worth remembering that short hair is as much about confidence as it is about the cut, in my salon I have seen it too many times with new clients who have come to me to re-style and re-cut their hair from a previous attempt at a short look, mostly because there wasn’t enough discussion about how short their hair needed to be in order for the style to ‘work’ and how they must maintain their new look. taking time with your hairdresser to go through the benefits and new requirements of going shorter are paramount to making sure you love your hair.

Having texture in your hair, whether it be short or long doesn’t mean you are compromising on the shape or structure, it’s about making sure whichever way you wear your hair the right balance of shape and texture is what will make your hair stand out and be a fantastic accessory for whatever the occasion this spring.
